The institutions and bodies responsible for the beaches on the coast of Biscay are working to implement and develop an integrated management system that will allow us to attain certification under the ISO 9001 international standard for quality management systems, and ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management systems.

The objectives of implementing such a management system are a more respectful use of the natural environment on our beaches, and to allow users to enjoy higher quality beaches.

The following beaches have been awarded the ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications: La Arena (Muskiz y Zierbana), Bakio, Laida y Laga (Ibarrangelu), Karraspio (Mendexa) Arrietara - Atxabiribil (Sopelana), Ogella (Ispaster), Isuntza (Lekeitio), Arrigorri (Ondarroa), Plentzia, Ereaga (Getxo), Arrigunaga (Getxo) and Aritzatxu (Bermeo).

The principle underlying the integrated management system for Biscay’s beaches is based on environmental and quality policies, which take account of the requirements that participating entities undertake to realise.
