The Animal Health Section conducts a series of activities aimed at guaranteeing animal health and wellbeing, food safety, the protection of the environment and natural resources, minimisation of commercial hurdles associated to diseases, etc.

The above activities are carried out on the basis of several plans laid down at the autonomous or national level (national waste plan, spongiform encephalopathy combating and eradication programme, milk quality programme, ...), official inspections, etc., and in some cases, special services have been set up, such as the carcass and uncontrolled livestock collection services.
